Preclinical Studies of Mass Spectrometry Techniques in Skin Cancer Management
Aim of the study
The research described in this thesis aims to evaluate the potential of MALDI-MSI as a technology for metabolomic characterization and clinical diagnosis of KC by comparison with histopathology.
Additionally, it seeks to establish a foundation for the future clinical implementation of a LA-REIMS system for real-time intraoperative tissue classification, thereby bridging the gap between molecular diagnostics and clinical treatment. This could provide a two-in-one approach combining diagnosis and treatment.
Research objectives
- Accurately identify SCC and BCC regions in tissue sections using MALDI-MSI and ML
- Characterize the metabolic profiles of SCC and BCC
- Development of a LA-REIMS system for imaging and treatment of KC
