Danish Research Center for Skin Cancer makes a splash at ASLMS 2024

Attendees from the Danish Research Center for Skin Cancer maintained a strong presence at this year’s American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery Meeting (ASLMS) in Baltimore from April 11-14th 2024.

Director and Head of Research professor Merete Haedersdal and Chairperson professor Peter Bjerring were both in attendance at the 43rd annual ASLMS conference, joined by senior researchers Uffe Høgh Olesen and Emily Wenande and PhD students Gabriela Lladó Grove, Kevin Jacobsen, Gabriella Fredman and Lauritz Falkow Brorsen.

The ASLMS conference is dedicated to advancing the biomedical application of lasers and energy-based technologies. With attendees from around the world, the conference serves as a platform for medical professionals and researchers to exchange knowledge and showcase innovations in energy-based medicine and science.

The Danish Research Center for Skin Cancer made a strong impact with a total of twelve talks delivered on their innovative work. Professor Merete Haedersdal, recipient of last year’s prestigious Leon Goldman Memorial Award, presented and chaired several sessions i.e.: Transdermal drug delivery, photodynamic therapy, cancer treatment and prevention using EBD.

Multiple representatives from the Danish Research Center for Skin Cancer were recognized for their work this year. Professor Peter Bjerring received the prestigious 'Caroline & William Mark Memorial Award 2024', given to individuals for their achievements in research or clinical practice and dedication to advancing laser technology. Senior researcher Uffe Høgh Olesen and PhD Rikke Louise Christensen were awarded the best overall basic science and translational research abstract for their innovative work on ‘Cutaneous Immune Responses to Dermatological Procedures with Ablative Fractional Laser, Heat- and Cold-Based Devices.’

By participating in ASLMS and presenting the newest skin cancer research on novel laser therapies to advanced imaging techniques, we aim to strengthen our collaboration with peers around the world and develop partnerships that will enhance patient care.
