New Danish data on systemic photoprotection shared with international scientists

Will we soon ingest our sunscreen in addition to putting it on our skin?

At a recent conference in the German city of Homburg, Ph.D. student Celina Pihl from the Danish Research Center for Skin Cancer presented new study data from the Pharmacological Photoprotection project.

Seeking to make sun protection an integral part of everyday life, Celina Pihl focuses her research on systemic photoprotection. In essence, she identifies drugs, vitamins, and herbal substances that, when ingested, can combat the harmful effects of sun exposure.

The natural substances Celina Pihl studies are, among others, extracted from plants, citrus fruits, and algae, and many are therefore already part of a natural daily diet.

In addition to Celina Pihl, several other representatives from the research center attended the ’Vitamin D in Prevention and Therapy and Biologic Effects of Light’ conference.

The conference aimed to present a wide range of topics in preventing and treating diseases, including skin cancer.
