Current research

My focus is systemic photoprotection. In Denmark, skin cancer or keratinocyte carcinoma is an increasing problem that is significantly affected by the ultraviolet radiation coming from the sun. As sunscreen and sunblock are not used sufficiently, new avenues of photoprotection are needed. Through systemic photoprotection our focus is to identify compounds that by ingestion can prevent the damaging effects from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. As the aim is to make photoprotection a part of the daily life, my research is focused on  pharmaceuticals, vitamins, and plant-derived compounds extracted from fruits and vegetables already a part of a daily diet.
