At the recently held photobiology conference in Albuquerque, the Danish Research Centre for Skin Cancer was well-represented with two presenters

Participants from all over the world shared the latest reserach and knowledge in photochemistry and photobiology at the 41st Biennial meeting in the American Society for Photobiology in September.

Senior researcher Peter Alshede Philipsen and PhD student Celina Pihl both participated in the ASP conference and shared their latest research results in the prevention and measuring of sun damage.

During the 'Natural Products in Prevention of Photodamage and Photocarcinogenesis' session, Peter Alshede Philipsen gave a presentation titled 'Validation of vitamin D3 action spectra'. The research results are important for a revision of the general sun advice on vitamin D.

PhD student Celina Pihl gave a presentation on 'Nicotinamide and phytochemicals phloroglucinol and syringic acid delay UVR-induced squamous cell carcinoma onset'. The focus in Celina's research is the identification of natural substances that protect against sun exposure. Since the use of sunscreen is generally limited, the goal is to deliver substances orally as a supplement to sunscreen to create better sun protection.

During the session on 'UV-induced responses and skin cancer', Peter gave his second presentation titled 'Detection of thymine dimers in urine after UVR exposure of volunteers by a new UPLC-MS/MS based Method' regarding a new method for measuring DNA -damages after UV irradiation in urine.

The 41st Biennial meeting in the American Society for Photobiology was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA from the 25th-28th of September 2022.
